This project in a plastic injection moulding facility focussed on delivering environmental savings through initiatives in packaging, energy requirements of the facility, eco-design, manufacturing efficiency and scrap reduction.
The CGPP team identified and prioritised opportunities that delivered environmental and financial savings with a return on investment of less than one year. Tech Group Europe implemented equipment and process changes accruing significant environmental savings equivalent to 338 tonnes of C02 per year.
Environmental improvements introduced as a result of the project, combined with other plant wide achievements, helped Tech Group Europe win the Presidential Award for 2010 for ‘Best Overall Performance’ from our corporate parent West Pharmaceuticals.
The initiatives implemented through the CGPP project include:
- Minimisation of packaging through delivery of raw material in bulk, saving 23 tonnes of packaging.
- Reduction of energy associated with manufacturing saving €108,000 in energy costs by introducing efficient humidity control, lighting and installing insulation to reduce heat losses.
- Reduction of waste by reducing reject levels in manufacturing resulted in 16.3 tonnes of plastic being saved or 52.4 tonnes of CO2
- Environmental awareness training was given to all staff. In addition, Six Sigma training was delivered to 30 staff, which they utilised to deliver successful CGPP project elements.
